• air – same as aerial
• aerial – a successful airborne maneuver
• ankle slop – small waves
• axed – wipe out, falling off surfboard
• backdoor – entering a tube from behind the peak of wave
• bail out –avoid a wipeout or falling off surfboard
• beach break – waves that are breaking over a sandy bottom beach
• blown out – surf condition, unrideable waves
• barrel – hollow portion of wave, tube
• break – waves
• bumps – wax build-up on a surfboard deck
• carve – turning on a wave
• charging– aggressive surfing
• choppy – irregular waves or surf conditions
• closeout – a wave that does not break uniformly
• crew – a group of surfers
• crispy – excellent wave or session
• cross step – crossing feet while moving up and down surfboard
• cutback – reversing the direction back to break point of wave
• dawn patrol – An early morning surf session
• deck – top surface of surfboard
• ding – a dent or puncture in surfboard
• dropping in – catching or stealing someone else’s wave
• duck dive – diving under an oncoming wave while paddling out
• dude – greeting for friend or surfer
• epic – excellent wave or session
• face – forward facing portion of the wave
• fan – spray of water created by surfboard off of the wave
• fin – the triangular shaped performance device on underside of surfboard
• freshly baked – just completed session
• gidget – young surfer girl
• glassy – surf condition, little or no waves
• green room – inside a large barrel, tube
• grommet – young surfer
• hang five – five toes over the nose surfboard
• hang ten – ten toes over the nose surfboard
• killer – excellent wave or session
• kook – begining surfer, cause of trouble
• line-up – surfer(s) on a particular beach or break
• local – indigenous surfer(s) to a particular beach
• localism – hostility of local surfers towards visting surfers
• log – surfboard – typically longboard
• nose – the pointy, front end of surfboard
• pack – a group of surfers, crew
• pipeline – surf spot on the North Shore of Oahu
• session – a a particular period of time surfing
• shaper – someone who designss or manufactures surfboards
• shark bait – surfer
• slab – wave formed in deeper depths
• soup – white water of a breaking wave
